WHAT WE DO
The Vernal Pool Association places major emphasis on providing information to the public about the natural history and protection of vernal pools. Our most visible products are The Vernal Pool website, our educational outreach publications, and our workshops/talks throughout the New England region.
We also work directly with teachers and researchers to develop new education materials and to help teachers study vernal pools with their classes. Much of this interaction is done through email.
In summer, 2009, we reprinted (with slight revisions) the Field Guide to the Animals of Vernal Pools. Our Vernal Pool Life poster set is being upgraded from 35 posters to 47 posters.
We encourage environmental inventories and certification projects on significant properties in MA. We have been volunteering our time and knowledge to document the vernal pools in the Boxford State Forest and associated properties, the Cape Cod National Seashore, and Minute Man National Park. In the spring of 2010, we will coordinate with the Friends of the Fells to survey the Fells Reservation for vernal pools and rare species.
We are now in the sixth year of our Fairy Shrimp Survey.A workshop for educators is scheduled for late spring, 2010.
